A 24-year-old nomad named Ngavang Yonten, burned himself on 26th November 2019 in a village near Meruma, Ngaba region, Tibet. He joined the ranks of many protesters who sacrificed themselves in a protest against Chinese oppression of Tibetans and their culture.

One month later, on the banks of the Šalčia River, I kept a fire burning day and night in an attempt to have a conversation with Ngavang Yonten.
